2017 Aug Grand Circle 1

Started our trip visiting cousins in Central Nebraska.  Wasn't it nice for them to schedule an antique tractor pull competition just for us.  Just kidding.  This is an annual event.  The tractor below is pulling the truck with weight in the box that gradually moves forward and is harder for the tractor to pull.  When the tractor no longer has any forward motion, they measure the distance. Rural Americana at it's best.

We then made our way West to Cedar City, Utah.  This hawk was just perched right by our motor home.  It hardly moved when we came close.  We were told by the local expert birder, that this is a Swanson Hawk just out of the nest.  They remain very docile for a few hours fresh out of the nest, then it was gone.  Do you see the hummingbird right above him.  The Hummer was not happy with the hawk.

Cedar Breaks Canyon near Cedar City, Utah.  First of many beautiful canyons that we will see in the next 30 days.

Cedar City at the end of this canyon in the distance.

There was a major forest fire near Cedar City just a month earlier.  It burned 71,000 square miles and burned for over a month before they could extinguish it. Came real close to this house.

With my cousin who lives in Cedar City and graciously let us park our motor home on their property.  Also showed us all the sites around this beautiful part of the country.

Petroglyphs (etchings of very early humans) on the rocks near Cedar City.  How the experts figure out what these etchings are portraying is a mystery to me.

New Mormon temple in Cedar City.  Everyone is invited to tour the temple before it's dedicated, but after it's dedicated only Mormons can enter.
