2017 Sep Grand Circle 3 Grand Canyon North Rim

On our way from St. George to Jacob Lake, AZ we stopped at Pipe Spring National Monument. This was a Mormon settlement in the middle of very harsh country. They made a go of it for a number of years until the US Marshals caused them difficulty because of the polygamy issues.






When we arrived in Jacob Lake we were advised at the Visitor center to visit Lee's Ferry. The next few picture are of that visit. This where many of the Colorado River raft trips start. Our friend Byron has fond memories of this place.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Our first visit. I don't know how to describe the beauty and majesty of this place except--breathtaking! It is truly God made.
As some of you may be aware I, Cliff, has some issues with high places with edges that lead straight down. So the pictures are taken by our expert photographer, Linda.

Montezuma's Castle. Tuzigoot ruins not too far from Jerome AZ Above and below are from Jerome AZ. This was and still is an artist colony. Very 'hippie' in it's day and, I feel, today! Beautiful with incredible views of the Verde Valley. Saw this painting above in a gift shop in Jerome, then spotted the same truck on the street. We were experiencing this day via a guided bus tour of the Verde Valley to include the town of Jerome and the more famous town of Sedona AZ. We also went all the way up and back the Oak Creek Canyon. 2017 Sep 15 Vicksburg

On our way home we stopped at the Vicksburg National Military Park. This is the site of one of the deciding battles of the American Civil War. It is beautiful, historic, but with a tragic past. No matter your political, religious beliefs, or ethnic back ground you need to understand that this was a tragic time in the history of this wonderful country. It is parks like this that remind us of the necessity of unity--both in this country and in the world where we live. This is history. The Union Army's gunship Cairo was torpedoed and sunk on December 12, 1862.  There was a lot of controversy where the ship went down.  It was found and excavated in 1960. 17,000 of the 20,000 that were killed in the Battle at Vicksburg are buried here in the National Cemetery in Vicksburg.  I think they said 3,000 stones are marked as "unknown."
